Daisy Grace the Unicorn22/08/2023Absolutely fantastic. Would recommend to anyone to hire with electric explorers. Karen and Tod couldn’t be more helpful in making sure everything will go perfectly. We hired the 4berth roof tent for 2 adults and a 9 year old and still plenty of room. Roof tent went perfectly on BMW 1 Series Coupe and couldn’t even tell it was mounted on top when driving. Takes minutes to set up or put down. We would 100% hire again. Thank you

I bombarded him with loads of questions about roof bars for my car, the tent itself and addidional camping equipment, he patiently and very exaustively answered all of them. In the end I managed to buy the right roof bars and had no problems with fitting the tent on it and enjoying camping for our 3-night road trip in Lake District. I'd definitely recommend this company for your road trips in the area, perfect service!

scarlet Enyoke18/07/2023The entire experience was (to put it plainly) easy! Karen and Tod were amazing, nothing was too much or too difficult. We had to bring back the tent early due to a family emergency and they were so helpful in making that happen. The tent itself was spacious, comfortable and warm and the price was affordable! 100% recommend! We will most definitely be using them again! Thankyou!!

Tod delivered the Teardrop Camper exactly on time and conducted a brief but thorough handover. He collected the camper exactly on time also, and we experienced no problems at all. Definitely would hire from Electric Explorers again.

The whole experience with Karen and Tod was really good, they are friendly, helpful and professional. The roof tent fitting and removal service made things much simpler for us. We would highly recommend Electric Explorers and would be happy to use them again.

c17ffy03/05/2023Just returned from 4 nights in the lakes hiring and staying in the teardrop with kitchen from Electric Explorers. Awning tent also supplied at small additional cost but it does make life easier with storage of clothes etc for more than a couple of night stay. The pick up and drop of was excellent all features explained. The teardrop itself had all the equipment I would ever need. Included smart TV and radio made the evenings cosy when the weather wasn’t great. All in all great experience and would definitely look to hire again. Whilst owning my own teardrop or roof tent would be nice I just don’t manage to get away often enough to warrant buying either. Hiring when you want the experience is perfect. Thanks Again

Convenient Pickup
Our rooftop tents will give you a room with a view. We fit the tent to your vehicle and we remove it at the end of your hire. Hire from just two nights to as long as you like.
When you collect a rooftent from our barn in Hawkshead, you are already in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Just a short drive will get you to a selection of spectacular campsites, or you are welcome to tour farther afield.
Easy to Use
Our tents take a few minutes to set up from arriving at your pitch to being ready to use. Rise above the hassle of pegging down your tent and experience camping from a new perspective. Arriving at a campsite late? You could be in bed in 5 minutes.
High Quality
We source all our tents from premium manufacturers. They will keep you dry in all weathers and some even have a winter thermal liner to keep you warmer in the cold seasons. They come with a light mattress, and we can supply bedding as an option.
No roofbars on your vehicle? No problem!
If your vehicle does not have roofbars, just ask about our roobar hire. We can supply suitable Thule roofbars to fit most vehicles. We can then put your chosen rooftent onto the roofbars.
If you’ve already got your own bars, then you’re good to go!
Touring farther afield? No problem!
If the Lake District is not your final destination, you are welcome to take our rooftents anywhere in the UK. A popular option is to hire your rooftent from us and then to head off into Scotland. The choice is yours.

Try Something Different
Fancy something a bit special? Hire one of our teardrop trailers to hitch onto your own vehicle. Cosy & retro, these mini-caravans come with a light mattress, and we can supply bedding as an option. Hire one from just one night to as long as you like.
Our larger models have a rear hatch with sink and food preparation area. We can also supply you with a large awning and other camping equipment if you like.

No Car? No Problem!
Perhaps you are travelling to the Lakes by train or coach, or you don’t fancy towing? Let us know and for a small extra fee we can deliver the teardrop to a local campsite of your choice.
Handy for Country Lanes
Teardrops are narrower in body than any modern car, so your car should not need extended wing mirrors to tow them. If your car can fit down a narrow lane, then the treadrop can too!
Easy to Tow - Suitable for EVs too
Our teardrops are far lighter than a full-size caravan, making them much easier to tow. They should be light enough for nearly all EVs to be able to tow them.
On a firm level site, a teardrop can be repositioned by hand.
